Origin Stories

These pieces were created during a residency at Unit1 Gallery-Workshop in 2022, London, called 'Radical Residency VII'.  For me the 'radical' part was looking into some of the literal roots (radix) of our current ecological situation, by researching more about how plants were shipped across the globe and planted in new places, away from their slowly-formed networks of interdependent species, setting of a series of knock-off effects. These pieces look at the rampant collecting and moving of plants species around the globe during the era of exploration/exploitation, using as materials and references found images and maps, herbaria (a type of preserved plant specimen), found objects and text.
