Oil Spill Series

This series includes mixed media and oil paintings based on archival materials and photographs from an oil spill that took place in the the San Francisco Bay 50 years ago, in January 1971.  Two Standard Oil Company tankers collided in the San Francisco Bay, pouring 800,000 gallons of oil into the waters. This was tragic for the natural environment and prompted an outpouring of help from thousands of volunteers who tried to save the oiled seabirds and help with the cleanup generally. A number of environmental and activist organizations grew out of this event.  (2020-ongoing)
