Draw London's classes teach solid drawing skills and introduce participants to the range of amazing museums, large and small, that London has to offer. Beyond technique, the classes are a way to take time out from busy urban lifestyles to give yourself over to the deep focus that drawing requires. Classes are carefully planned and structured so that students build skill upon skill to become confident drawers. Handouts are provided to compliment the themes we investigate together.

Marcia has over fifteen years' experience teaching art in museums and schools. She has taught in California, New York, Switzerland, and Italy, at places such as the Brooklyn Museum, Pratt Institute of Art & Design, the Zurich Kunsthaus, and others. Marcia holds an MFA in Visual Art from the City University of New York, Queens College, and an MA in Museum & Gallery Education at the Institute of Education, London. She wrote her MA thesis on drawing in museums and galleries, exploring drawing as an effective and meaningful way for people to engage with museum collections.

Some feedback from former Draw London participants:

What a beautiful and inspirational way to spend a Saturday in London. It was lovely meeting new people and thanks Marcia for your endless assistance and enthusiasm!

I think that for most of us it was a private time to concentrate in something particular. To clear your mind and to focus in your artistic side. Kind like meditation with a tangible purpose. I really enjoyed the fact that there is technical guidance but you as teacher leave space for creativity.

I think [the class] was paced perfectly. Your modelling was clear and just the right length of time. You scaffolded the day really well ensuring there was enough time spent at each phase to bring us to our finished project. Your handouts were relevant and contained just the right amount of information to support us in what we were learning.

The combination of intensive individual attention and most crucially, a description and demonstration of what we were aiming for was invaluable ... Working with/around the busyness [of the museum] was part of the learning experience - being able to detach from the other visitors is a skill in itself.

Above all I learned to be still. Learned about patience and, yes, I think my drawings improved.

A much needed dose of art therapy to help me through these choppy times.
